For those that haven't noticed yet, our friends at Nullriver added the alpha release of Devicescape Connect application to their package list over the weekend. Please remember that this is an alpha release, and we're looking for your feedback to tell us what you like, what you don't like and obviously to report any problems.
The current version does not support the personal networks or Wi-Fi Buddies features of Devicescape yet (we're looking into how we can do that for the iPhone too, but there's a little more work to do in that area). What it does do today is log you in automatically to all of the free and commercial networks that we support, without you having to do anything. There is a simple UI on the phone too that allows you to login again (if, for example, the network times you out) and also logout (useful on networks that charge by the minute).
To get started please visit
Nullriver's iPhone site and install the App. Tapp. Installer.app. There are instructions there for both Mac and Windows users, and the installation is relatively straightforward. It will also get you access to an ever increasing number of other third party applications for your iPhone.
Once the Installer is installed on your iPhone, just tap its icon on the home screen and scroll down the list until you see Devicescape Connect. Tap that, then tap Install and answer the questions and you'll have Devicescape installed and running. Next thing to do, if you don't already have one, is to sign up for an account at
Devicescape's site and complete the registration of your iPhone by entering the 5 character code in the box on the My Devices tab. Finally, add some hotspot networks to your account and you'll be good to go.
Please remember to tell us what you think too by sending an
email to our special iPhone account, posting a comment here in our forum or leaving us a comment on our
blog.
